Mirrors are prone to gathering grime and dust, especially in high-moisture areas like bathrooms. Learn how to maintain spotless mirrors using everyday household items such as white vinegar, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol.
This article draws insights from an interview with Filip Boksas, CEO, and Founder of King of Maids.
Step 1: Cleaning with White Vinegar
Create a powerful mirror cleaning solution by mixing equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Ensure you're using white vinegar specifically. Transfer the solution to a spray bottle for easy application.
Spray the vinegar solution liberally onto the mirror's surface, starting from the top and moving horizontally. Use a microfiber cloth for wiping, maintaining left-to-right strokes.
Dry the mirror thoroughly with a dry microfiber cloth or newspaper to prevent streaks. Additionally, applying shaving cream and wiping it off can keep mirrors fog-free.
Step 2: Cleaning with Ammonia
Mix ½ cup of ammonia with 2 cups of rubbing alcohol, a few drops of dish soap, and enough warm water to make 1 gallon of solution. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
Spray the cleaner onto the mirror's surface and wipe horizontally using a microfiber cloth. Ensure proper ventilation and wear protective gear when working with ammonia.
Dry the mirror completely with a microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Step 3: Spot-Treating Difficult Stains
Treat tough stains or residue with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Dab the affected area and wipe it off with a dry cloth.
For stubborn stains, dampen the area and gently scrape off the residue using a razor scraper. Apply a paste made of equal parts baking soda and vinegar to further tackle hard stains.
Ensure you're using white vinegar only for effective results.
By following these methods, you can maintain sparkling mirrors using readily available household items.
