Malteser International has been operational in Nigeria since 2017, focusing primarily on humanitarian assistance in Northeast Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Taraba, and Adamawa States. MI is actively engaged in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Protection, and Food Nutrition Security and Livelihoods (FNSL) sectors. Our mission is to improve the lives of internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and host communities through sustainable interventions.
In the WASH sector, MI ensures improved access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices. This includes the distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs), solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines, and hygiene promotion initiatives.
Our Protection initiatives focus on preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, ensuring the safety and dignity of vulnerable populations.
In Food Nutrition Security and Livelihoods, MI promotes sustainable practices such as micro gardening, pullet rearing for egg production, composting, and nutrition education. We aim to enhance food security and improve nutritional outcomes, including referrals for malnutrition cases and sensitization on nutrition best practices.
Malteser International adopts a participatory, gender-sensitive, and inclusive approach, ensuring that our interventions are tailored to the specific needs of the communities we serve.
