Are you tired of using stiff, rough towels instead of the soft, fluffy ones you love? You might be making a crucial mistake in your laundry routine. Allen Civlak, CEO of Mary's Kitchen Flour Sack Towels and a laundry expert, reveals that many of us unwittingly sabotage our towels' softness by overusing detergent.
Contrary to popular belief, more detergent doesn't equal cleaner towels. In fact, using excess detergent leaves behind a residue that makes towels stiff and less absorbent over time. To restore your towels' fluffiness, start by cutting back on detergent usage.
But that's not all – there are two more steps to ensure your towels stay soft and plush. First, consider the washing temperature. Towels thrive in hotter wash cycles, around 60°C, which effectively kills bacteria and removes body oils trapped in the fibers. Opt for a medium heat setting or fluff cycle when drying to avoid damaging the fibers.
Secondly, ditch the fabric softener when it comes to towels. Unlike other fabrics, towels don't benefit from fabric softener and it can even hinder their absorbency. Instead, embrace the natural texture of clean towels.
For an extra boost of fluffiness, incorporate half a cup of white vinegar into your wash cycle every few months. This helps remove detergent buildup and keeps your towels smelling fresh without compromising their softness.
By following these simple steps – reducing detergent usage, washing at the right temperature, skipping fabric softener, and occasionally treating with white vinegar – you can extend your towels' lifespan and enjoy the luxurious feel of fluffy towels every time you dry off. Say goodbye to stiff towels and hello to a spa-like experience in your own bathroom!
