Job Description
As a Biosafety Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring biosafety programs that align with both national and international standards. The role requires a proactive approach to risk management, ensuring that all safety protocols are strictly followed to minimize risks to laboratory personnel and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Development and Implementation of Biosafety Programs: Create and enforce biosafety policies and procedures that meet or exceed current safety regulations.
- Risk Assessments and Compliance: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and ensure the laboratory complies with relevant biosafety laws and guidelines.
- Training and Education: Provide ongoing training to laboratory personnel on the safe handling of hazardous materials and proper safety practices. Ensure all staff are well-versed in biosafety protocols.
- Hazardous Materials Management: Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous biological and chemical materials used within the laboratory.
- Safety Monitoring and Audits: Regularly monitor laboratory operations to ensure adherence to safety protocols and recommend improvements when necessary.
- Incident Management: Respond to safety incidents promptly, investigate causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biological sciences, biosafety practices, and laboratory management.

Educational Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
- An advanced degree in Biosafety, Public Health, or Molecular Biology will be an advantage.

Certification Requirements:
- Relevant certifications in biosafety, occupational health, or laboratory safety are mandatory. Applicants must provide details of their certifications and any specialized training during the application process.

Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, with at least 2 years dedicated to biosafety or related roles.
- Previous experience in a BSL3 facility will be an advantage.
