Key Responsibilities
Safety Management System Development
The Construction Safety Officer will design, implement, and manage a robust safety management system tailored to all Noreta construction projects. This role will involve creating and enforcing policies that ensure maximum safety for all workers on-site.
Site Safety Oversight
Oversee all aspects of safety on construction sites, ensuring that safety protocols are followed consistently. As the on-site safety expert, you will provide guidance to both workers and management, ensuring a culture of safety is embedded throughout every project phase.
Program Evaluation and Compliance Review
You will be tasked with evaluating Noreta’s existing safety programs to ensure they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. This includes ensuring strict compliance with OSHA standards and Nigerian construction safety regulations.
Regulatory Compliance and Coordination
Coordinate regular inspections by regulatory bodies, ensuring Noreta's safety practices align with all necessary guidelines and laws. The officer will oversee safety audits and act as the point of contact for compliance matters.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans for all construction sites, ensuring drills and practices are conducted regularly to prepare for accidents or emergency situations.
Risk Management
Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify hazards and proactively develop strategies to minimize risk. Regular updates to safety protocols will be required to ensure ongoing safety compliance.
Site Inspections and Safety Audits
Regular site inspections and audits will be carried out to ensure all machinery, tools, and operations adhere to safety guidelines. These inspections will also help address any safety concerns promptly.
Safety Training and Awareness
Develop and conduct safety training programs for workers, subcontractors, and contractors. Your efforts will help foster a culture of safety awareness and ensure every team member is knowledgeable about safety standards.
Incident Recording and Reporting
Document and report all safety incidents, near misses, and concerns. You will be responsible for preparing detailed safety reports and following up with corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications: NEBOSH, OSHA certification, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in construction safety roles with a reputable construction firm.
- Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to manage multiple sites simultaneously.

- Expert Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of OSHA and Nigerian construction safety standards.
- Risk Assessment: Ability to identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.

- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to site inspections, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and communicate safety expectations effectively across teams.
Salary and Benefits
