Job Summary
The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Consular Associate in the Consular Section. This position involves providing critical consular services, including American Citizen Services (ACS), Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) processing, Immigrant Visa processing, and Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) responsibilities. The role demands exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and complex tasks with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Consular Chief, perform a variety of tasks in the ACS Unit, NIV Unit, Immigrant Visa Unit, and Fraud Prevention Unit.
- Deliver consular services to U.S. citizens and assist in visa processing operations.
- Conduct investigations and validation studies related to visa and citizen services.
- Manage correspondence with the public, attorneys, U.S. and host governments, Congress, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and host country regulations and policies.
- Secure and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
Requirements
- Completion of High School/Secondary School is mandatory.
- At least two (2) years of relevant office administrative experience.
- Proficiency in data entry with a high degree of accuracy and the ability to identify and rectify errors.
- Demonstrated expertise in MS Office Suite and general computer skills, including information and database management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and difficult situations with tact and good judgment.
- Ability to evaluate evidence and apply complex regulations with sensitivity.
- Willingness to learn and apply U.S. and host country laws, regulations, and legal precedents.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to draft official correspondence and reports.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of State Secret Security clearance.
Salary
USD $42,391 per year.
