Creating Your Own Soapy Ammonia Cleaning Solution

An often favored cleaning product goes by the name of 'Sudsy Ammonia,' readily found in most US supermarkets. However, if you can't locate it or it's unavailable, fret not; you can easily whip up your own version, dubbed 'Soapy Ammonia.'

This concoction can save you some bucks compared to the store-bought alternative. Plus, you can tailor its concentration to suit different cleaning tasks, like using it sans detergent for streak-free windows, replacing pricey brand-name cleaners.

Here's how to make it:

1. Procure concentrated ammonia solution. You can find this in the household cleaner section of larger US supermarkets or try hardware and industrial cleaner suppliers. Opt for the smallest bottle since you won't need much.

2. Prioritize safety: Wear rubber gloves and goggles, as ammonia can cause skin and eye irritation.

3. Ensure good ventilation when mixing your solution.

4. Avoid leaning over the bottles while pouring to prevent exposure to fumes.

5. Set up your workspace over a sink to catch any spills.

6. Grab a 12 oz. plastic spray bottle, available in most grocery, chain, or hardware stores. Remember, it's best not to reuse old cleaner bottles to avoid confusion.

7. Start by filling the bottle with tap water.

8. Pour out about a third of a cup of water to make space for the ammonia.

9. Use a funnel to add roughly a third of a cup of ammonia into the bottle.

10. Add a squirt of dishwashing liquid to the mix.

11. Seal the bottle tightly.

12. Give it a gentle shake to blend the ingredients.

13. Label the bottle clearly as 'Soapy Ammonia' using an indelible marker.

14. Include a warning: 'Danger: Do not mix with Bleach.'

15. Indicate 'POISON' on the bottle and store it out of children's reach.

16. Lastly, jot down the US Poison Control number (1-800-222-1222) on the bottle for safety reference.
