Job Description
The Engineer II position is pivotal within our organization, offering essential engineering services and technical leadership across several domains including chemical synthesis, protein purification, formulation, and packaging. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring process safety, driving new product development, overseeing scale-up activities, selecting and validating new manufacturing equipment, and implementing cost reduction initiatives. The Engineer II will be instrumental in advancing operational excellence and meeting our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Innovation: Create and refine products, processes, and facilities to meet performance, cost, and capacity goals.
- Project Management: Oversee capital improvement projects, including upgrades to equipment and facilities, from inception to completion.
- Technology and Vendor Research: Investigate and recommend new technologies and vendors, and develop financial justifications for capital investments.
- Equipment and Facility Management: Manage the purchase, installation, and validation of new equipment and facilities.
- Process Optimization: Develop new processes to support product development and technology transfer, while continuously improving existing processes to enhance quality, reduce costs, and eliminate waste.
- Performance Analysis: Analyze production metrics to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
- Lean Manufacturing Support: Contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives and ensure compliance with related practices.
- Supplier Management: Identify, qualify, and manage suppliers; address and resolve issues related to supplier quality, cost, and delivery. Collaborate with suppliers on process improvements.
- Quality Assurance: Design and execute product quality plans for both new and existing products.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, preferably in pharmaceutical, chemical, biological, or food production sectors.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of process/chemical engineering principles and equipment selection; experience with computer-aided design and analysis tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks); familiarity with electrical/electronic components and control systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Proficiency in methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the capability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in PC applications, including Word, Excel, and CAD.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional off-shift hours, weekends, and travel overnight as required.
