The family of Damilola Iyanda, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who was reportedly killed in a police shooting in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, seeks justice following the tragic incident. Damilola, attending an after-party of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) convocation ceremony, was allegedly shot by a police officer deployed to control a fracas outside the venue. His younger brother, Oluwafemi Iyanda, also sustained gunshot injuries during the altercation.
Lawrence Iyanda, Damilola's uncle, described the devastating impact on their family, emphasizing Damilola's peaceful nature and aspirations to become a civil engineer. The family demands justice and urges the Oyo State Government to intervene.
In response, the Oyo State Police Command announced the arrest of officers involved in the shooting. The Commissioner of Police ordered the case to be handled by the Homicide Department for thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, LAUTECH management confirmed the injury of Iyanda Femi Israel, a former student, during the incident. While expressing condolences to the deceased's family, the university reiterated its commitment to student and staff safety, monitoring Israel's health closely.
