The management of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro recently addressed the tragic passing of Ajayi Abimbola Adejoke, an HND student in the Leisure and Tourism department. Contrary to circulating rumors, her demise resulted from pregnancy-related complications, not negligence from the school’s clinic.
In a statement released by Mr. Sola Abiala, the polytechnic's Public Relations Officer, it was clarified that Adejoke's unfortunate passing was not due to any mishandling by the school clinic. Reports alleging negligence were debunked, with the school citing medical evidence obtained from the Director of Medical Services.
Initial rumors suggested that delays at the school clinic contributed to Adejoke's untimely death. However, investigations revealed that upon experiencing abdominal pains during a practical class, Adejoke was promptly attended to and accompanied by her boyfriend to the clinic. Subsequently, realizing the severity of her condition, the clinic referred her to a private hospital outside the institution for specialized care.
Despite these efforts, Adejoke tragically passed away at the private hospital, underscoring the severity of her pregnancy-related complications. The polytechnic emphasized that proper protocol was followed, with Adejoke being conveyed to the hospital in one of the institution’s ambulances, accompanied by medical personnel.
Furthermore, the school extended its condolences to Adejoke's family and reiterated that her death was not a result of negligence. Dr. J. O. Omowunmi, the Dean of Student Affairs, confirmed that the institution facilitated the transportation of Adejoke's remains to her family.
In conclusion, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro clarified that Adejoke's passing was a tragic outcome of pregnancy-related complications and not a consequence of any lapses in medical care provided by the school. The institution remains committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of its students.
