GPT-4o is our latest model, providing GPT-4-level intelligence with enhanced speed and capabilities across text, voice, and vision. This model excels at understanding and discussing images. For example, take a picture of a menu in a different language and GPT-4o will translate it, explain the food's history and significance, and even offer recommendations.
Future updates will bring more natural, real-time voice conversations and the ability to converse with ChatGPT via real-time video. Imagine showing ChatGPT a live sports game and having it explain the rules to you. We plan to launch a new Voice Mode with these features in alpha in the coming weeks, initially available to Plus users.
GPT-4o's improved language capabilities ensure it is faster and more accurate, supporting over 50 languages across sign-up, login, and user settings. We are rolling out GPT-4o to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise availability soon. ChatGPT Free users will also get access with usage limits, while Plus users will enjoy a message limit up to 5x greater, and Team and Enterprise users even higher.
Advanced Tools for Free Users
Our mission is to make advanced AI tools accessible to as many people as possible. Over a hundred million people use ChatGPT weekly, and we are starting to roll out more intelligence and advanced tools to free users. With GPT-4o, free users can now:
- Experience GPT-4 level intelligence
- Get responses from both the model and the web
- Analyze data and create charts
- Chat about photos you take
- Upload files for assistance with summarizing, writing, or analyzing
- Discover and use GPTs and the GPT Store
- Build a more helpful experience with Memory
There will be limits on the number of messages free users can send with GPT-4o based on usage and demand. When the limit is reached, ChatGPT will switch to GPT-3.5, allowing users to continue their conversations.

New ChatGPT Desktop App for macOS
We are launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, designed to integrate seamlessly with your workflow. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can instantly ask ChatGPT questions. The app also allows you to take and discuss screenshots directly.
Voice conversations are now possible directly from your computer. Start with the existing Voice Mode, and look forward to GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities. Whether brainstorming ideas, preparing for an interview, or discussing a topic, tap the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a voice conversation.
The macOS app is rolling out to Plus users today, with broader availability in the coming weeks. A Windows version is planned for later this year.
