Job Title: Head Microbiologist

Job Overview
The Head Microbiologist will lead and oversee the microbiology department at Psaltry International Limited, located in Ado-Awaye, Iseyin. This pivotal role involves managing microbiological testing, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, conducting research to improve product quality and processing efficiency, and leading a team of microbiologists. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in industrial microbiology, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of cassava processing and its microbiological challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of microbiologists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for team members.
- Oversee routine microbiological testing of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished products to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Interpret test results, identify potential microbiological hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment and testing methods are maintained, calibrated, and validated.
- Develop and maintain a robust quality control program to ensure the safety and quality of cassava products.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to implement and monitor HACCP plans and GMP practices.
- Develop new microbiological testing methods and protocols as needed.
- Work closely with other departments such as production, quality assurance, and R&D to ensure cohesive operations.
- Prepare and present reports on microbiological findings, trends, and recommendations to senior management.
- Represent the microbiology department in internal and external audits and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international food safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct and oversee research projects aimed at improving product quality, shelf-life, and processing efficiency.
- Stay current with advancements in microbiological research and incorporate relevant findings into the company's processes.
Qualifications
- BSc / HND or Master’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial microbiology, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Experience in the food processing industry, preferably in cassava or similar root crops.
Skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing methods, food safety regulations, and quality control standards.
- Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other relevant software.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Other Requirements
- Reside in Ibadan or Iseyin or a nearby city in Oyo State, or be willing to relocate to Iseyin/Ibadan.
