Job Overview
The Intern will support Amnesty International Nigeria’s research, advocacy, and campaign efforts aimed at advancing human rights in Nigeria. The role involves monitoring human rights developments, assisting in campaign activities, and conducting research on issues such as arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, women’s rights, media freedom, freedom of expression, torture, discrimination, forced evictions, and access to justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Research & Investigations: Assist in monitoring the human rights situation in Nigeria and contribute to research in various areas, including arbitrary arrests, unlawful killings, and more.
- Human Rights Monitoring: Track decisions and developments by national, regional, and international human rights bodies, including compiling relevant information for reporting.
- Administrative Support: Manage incoming inquiries, petitions, and administrative tasks, ensuring efficient handling of human rights documentation.
- Content Creation: Draft letters, reports, articles, blog posts, and other communications for both internal and external audiences.
- Meeting Documentation: Record and document minutes from weekly team meetings, submitting them for review and final approval.
- Crisis Response: Assist in the team’s efforts during human rights crises or urgent situations, providing timely support where needed.
- Campaign Support: Contribute to the planning, organization, and execution of human rights education, communication, and campaign activities.
- Event Planning: Help plan seminars, workshops, and other relevant events, providing logistical support and compiling necessary lists.

Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field (social sciences, international relations, law). A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Strong ability to multitask and manage conflicting demands.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with social media platforms and multimedia tools (e.g., Canva).
- Experience:
- Demonstrated interest in human rights through prior work or volunteer experience.
- Previous involvement in advocacy, NGOs, or related organizations is an advantage.
- Attributes:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and adapt to different tasks.
- Good interpersonal skills, with a helpful and approachable attitude.
Salary and Terms
- Annual Salary: N2,000,000
- Internship Duration: Fixed-term for up to one year, with no guarantee of employment upon completion.
