James Maddison's Ankle Injury Keeps Him Sidelined Until January
Tottenham Hotspur's manager, Ange Postecoglou, has officially stated that James Maddison won't return to competitive football until January due to a severe ankle injury. It's worth noting that Gareth Southgate, England's national team coach, excluded James Maddison from the squad for the 2024 European Championship qualifiers in November.
The 26-year-old English midfielder sustained the injury during Tottenham's eventful 4-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea on a Monday. Additionally, Micky van de Ven, who recently joined Spurs from Wolfsburg, also left that same Monday night Premier League match with a hamstring injury.
Coach Postecoglou mentioned, "A lot unfolded after Monday's game. Maddison's ankle injury is more serious than initially thought. He had to undergo a scan after experiencing discomfort the following day." He continued, "As for Micky, his hamstring injury is significant, and it looks like he'll be out for a couple of months into the new year."
In addition to Maddison and Micky, Tottenham Hotspur has several other key players unavailable:
- Richarlison is recovering from groin surgery earlier this month and won't be available for Tottenham.
- Defenders Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie, who received red cards against Chelsea, will be suspended for the upcoming Premier League match against Wolves.
