The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Kwara State, has responded to recent misinformation circulating on social media concerning its Law programmes. These posts allege that the Council of Legal Education (CLE) has suspended admissions into KWASU’s Law programme, further claiming that the university has been admitting and graduating students without the necessary accreditation. The posts also advise prospective students to change their institution of choice.
Clarifying KWASU’s Law Programmes Accreditation Status
KWASU Management would like to reassure the public that its two undergraduate Law programmes—Common Law and Common and Islamic Law—are fully accredited. These programmes hold accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE).
KWASU’s Law programmes officially commenced during the 2018/2019 academic session following approval from the NUC. Full accreditation for both programmes was secured from the NUC in 2021. Additionally, that same year, the Council of Legal Education also granted full accreditation to the programmes.
Since receiving CLE accreditation in 2021, KWASU has strictly complied with the CLE’s admission quota, allowing a maximum of fifty students per session. This quota has been consistently observed in the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2023/2024, and the current 2024/2025 academic sessions.
KWASU’s Dedication to Upholding Legal Education Standards
KWASU is deeply committed to maintaining the high standards set by both the National Universities Commission and the Council of Legal Education. The university is fully aligned with these regulatory bodies’ guidelines, ensuring that its Law programmes consistently meet the required academic and professional standards.
The university acknowledges the critical role of the Council of Legal Education in ensuring quality legal education and holds the Council in the highest esteem. KWASU reassures the public that its Law programmes are fully compliant with the Council's directives and remain in good standing.
