Job Summary
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing an effective maintenance program for mechanical equipment and machinery at the Ovade Ogharefe Gas Plant, specifically for the integrated gas gathering and recompression facility. The role will focus on overseeing the maintenance, operations, and performance of complex mechanical systems, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare maintenance philosophies, specifications, and work scopes for various equipment, including:
- 5 LP compressors (Waukesha 7044 engines driving Superior WH 64 compressors)
- 6 IP compressors (Waukesha 7044 engines driving Superior WH62 compressors)
- 2 HP compressors (CAT 3616 engines driving Superior WG74 compressors)
- 2 Sales gas compressors (similar engine/compressor configuration as HP units)
- Refrig compressor with CAT 3516 engine and Frick SGC 2817 Screw compressor, plus associated equipment (Mole Sieve unit, fin fan coolers, and gas-fired heaters)
- Oversee the overhaul of engines and compressors as necessary.
- Identify and procure critical spares and fluids to ensure smooth operation.
- Analyze equipment failure modes and determine the root causes of failures, utilizing the necessary tools and processes to support these activities.
- Lead the identification, documentation, and resolution of warranty claims related to static equipment.
- Supervise all fitting and welding activities, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
- Interpret and study P&ID’s, PFD’s, and Isometric drawings for team reference.
- Generate detailed periodic reports for management and external stakeholders.
- Diagnose mechanical faults using Cat ET and ESM.
- Document and monitor performance history for each piece of equipment.
- Mentor and coach Pan Ocean’s staff, developing their skills and technical knowledge.
- Develop and establish procedures for mechanical equipment testing, installation, commissioning, and startup.
- Witness and monitor installation activities, ensuring compliance with specifications, performance goals, safety protocols, and contractual terms.
Key Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree (B.Eng) in Mechanical Engineering, with 5-10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance engineering.
- Relevant technical qualifications and certifications in CAT & Waukesha engine maintenance.
- Extensive experience in upstream oil and gas operations, including supervisory roles.
- A solid understanding of oil and gas procedures and practices.
- Experience with gas processing operations, such as separation, dewatering, and fiscal metering.
- Strong problem-solving ability, collaborating with operations personnel to resolve technical issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken).
- Proficient in PC usage and software relevant to mechanical engineering.
- Strong understanding of and experience in gas production engineering.
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and multicultural environments.
- Previous work experience in Nigeria is advantageous.
- COREN-registered Engineer is required.
