Job Summary
Under supervision, this role involves performing mid to expert-level mechanical, electrical, and systems troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on equipment in accordance with manufacturer's manuals, diagrams, sketches, and other instructions.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform mid to expert-level break-fix and preventative maintenance. This includes:
- Observing devices in operation to locate the root cause of problems
- Dismantling devices to access and remove defective parts
- Examining parts to detect imperfections
- Adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Repairing and/or replacing defective parts
- Testing devices to observe performance and conducting tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems
- Reconditioning and repairing machine tools
- Identify and source parts, supplies, and repair items as necessary
- Perform maintenance independently as per industry standards
- Set up and operate multiple machining operations, including lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts; may perform welding tasks
- Comply with 5S and housekeeping standards
- Drive and participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) activities, processes, results, and cost savings
- Update records and review CMMS history
- Troubleshoot and analyze control systems to resolve software/hardware and configuration problems
- Utilize predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data
- Provide assistance to lower-level technicians and leadership to small teams, performing more advanced functions as part of training and development
- Complete on-the-job and technical self-study programs for career development
- Follow all safety-related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; maintain situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Behaviors Required
- High School Graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Associate's degree with a technical focus and 3 years of related experience in general industry; or 5 years of related experience in general industry; or successful completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program
- Understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; ability to analyze problems and perform repairs
- Proficient in using basic hand tools and specialized tools as appropriate
- May be required to travel
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance (which may require a ladder or lift), stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Close vision and color vision are also required. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment, which is usually very loud and may expose the employee to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.
