Job Overview

As a Management and General Ledger Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining financial stability and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records. You will be responsible for overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets. Additionally, you will work closely with the finance team and other departments to ensure compliance with accounting procedures, regulatory standards, and internal controls, all while driving improvements in financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Corporate Financial Analysis: Prepare detailed reports on corporate financial performance and project progress for review by the Head of Finance.
  • Month-End Accounting: Conduct essential month-end accounting activities, such as ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and ensuring all general ledger entries are complete and accurate.
  • Data Collection and Cost Analysis: Gather and analyze data on the company’s operational costs to support decision-making.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, collaborating with other departments to align financial goals.
  • Cost-Saving Initiatives: Work with various departments to identify and implement cost-saving strategies that improve financial efficiency.
  • Expenditure and Revenue Monitoring: Monitor expenditures, analyze revenue streams, and report any budget variances to the Head of Finance for further action.
  • Control Account Maintenance: Prepare lead schedules for control accounts, including prepayment and accruals ledgers, loan schedules, and other critical financial data. Ensure the timely delivery of accurate reports for month-end reconciliation.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Oversee the bank reconciliation process, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Communicate with all departments to ensure that invoices are approved and payments are processed correctly.
  • Procedure Improvements: Review existing accounting procedures, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and compliance.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance: Ensure that all financial activities comply with internal period-end checklists and accounting regulations.
  • Variance Analysis: Perform variance analysis to assess past results and trends, providing recommendations for improvements in financial operations.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Design and implement an optimized system for tracking and managing fixed assets.
  • Real-Time Data Entry: Supervise and ensure real-time data entry into the computerized accounting system to maintain up-to-date financial records.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Educational Requirements: Minimum of an HND or University Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Certifications: ACA/ACCA/CIMA certification is mandatory. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in accounting, particularly in the Shipping, Marine, or Oil & Gas sectors.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP. Knowledge of financial accounting software is essential.
  • Attention to Detail: Must be consistent, accurate, and thorough with a strong focus on detail.
