Job Description
This role supports a project focused on enhancing peace and security in Nigerian border communities across Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Kwara, and Niger States. The project's goal is to build community capacities, strengthen institutions, and promote cross-border collaboration. Key activities include:
- Empowering community members through training in conflict sensitivity and early warning systems.
- Establishing and revitalizing Peace Architecture Dialogues at local and state levels.
- Fostering collaboration among project stakeholders.
- Promoting social cohesion through sports events between communities and security officials.
- Engaging in conflict-sensitive journalism and community outreach through radio dramas and participatory theater.
Responsibilities
- Provide communications support for outreach events, including producing materials, live streaming on social media, and coordinating press conferences.
- Engage with media and social media to promote project objectives, create and distribute educational materials, and collaborate with journalists and influencers.
- Support local radio stations in media planning, production, publicity, and broadcasting.
- Coordinate the Common Ground Journalists’ Forum and quarterly meetings.
- Develop work plans, radio program production strategies, and broadcast plans.
- Monitor media logs, track broadcasts, and provide feedback to service providers.
- Assist the Communications Coordinator with infographics, e-fliers, and content distribution.
- Capture photos and success stories from project meetings, training, and events.
- Track news coverage and provide media reports and documentation.
- Deploy a mixed media approach to cover programs, including recording short videos for platforms like Instagram and YouTube.
- Develop and maintain relations with media actors and assist in mobilizing media for events.
- Support the Project Manager and Media Specialists in delivering multimedia peace campaigns.
- Collaborate with the media team to create relevant multimedia products for various platforms.
- Document lessons learned and outcomes from the program across target states.
- Provide monitoring data and impact stories related to radio programs.
- Report on media-related activities and contribute to donor reports.
- Ensure all activities comply with Search policies, donor regulations, and conflict-sensitive approaches.
- Integrate program messages into media programming streams and communicate with stakeholders to address end-user information needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, development studies, marketing, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in media program production and coordination, including Radio/TV programs.
- Proven track record in developing effective media/communications/advocacy strategies for campaigns.
- Experience in online facilitation and remote capacity building.
- Skilled in leveraging traditional and social media for advocacy and awareness.
- Experience with radio programming in Nigeria, including radio magazines, discussions, and talk shows.
- Proficient in creating digital communications content.
- Knowledge of local languages is advantageous.
- Extensive experience in training courses in journalism and media.
- Strong command of English and Hausa, with excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Creative writing, editing, photography, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple offices and stakeholders.
