About SPRiNG

The Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) Programme is designed to foster a more stable and peaceful Nigeria by addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting resilience to climate change. This programme aims to:

  • Support local efforts in conflict prevention, violence reduction, security and justice reform, and improved natural resource management.
  • Address critical barriers to peace while strengthening partnerships with international organizations.
  • Promote evidence-driven, adaptive solutions to security challenges, focusing on North-West and North-Central Nigeria.

SPRiNG is guided by evidence-based approaches in political economy, conflict analysis, and environmental science to ensure that interventions are responsive to the underlying drivers of conflict. The programme’s success is driven by a commitment to learning and adaptation, ensuring that solutions evolve based on real-time insights and data.

Role Purpose

The MEL Lead will oversee the implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning strategies across all SPRiNG programme activities. This critical role ensures the measurement and documentation of programme impact, driving continuous improvement in project outcomes. The MEL Lead will work closely with the core team to embed learning processes and provide actionable insights that inform strategic decisions and programme adaptations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Lead the development and execution of the MEL strategy to assess the collective impact of the SPRiNG programme.
  • Manage updates to the programme’s Theory of Change, logframe, and results management documents.
  • Ensure that baseline, midline, and endline evaluations are conducted and well-managed.
  • Supervise the collection of data, track progress against targets, and ensure results are verified in the field.
  • Manage the knowledge and data associated with evidence-based programming, sharing insights with the core team and stakeholders.

2. Programme Learning

  • Facilitate robust programme knowledge generation and ensure findings are effectively disseminated.
  • Lead the collation of data, success stories, and best practices to improve programme quality.
  • Organize learning events and reflections, promoting knowledge sharing within the team and with external stakeholders.

3. MEL Capacity Building

  • Provide training and resources to build capacity within the programme team for accurate reporting, learning, and adaptation.
  • Support regional MEL officers in areas such as Theory of Change development and outcome harvesting.

4. Reporting

  • Assist programme teams in gathering and analyzing data for progress reports, including quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensure that monitoring and evaluation data effectively communicate programme impact to stakeholders.

5. Leadership and Strategy

  • Contribute to the achievement of strategic programme goals and ensure the MEL strategy aligns with broader objectives.
  • Supervise regional MEL officers, ensuring the consistent application of the MEL framework and necessary project adaptations.

Role Requirements

Educational Background

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in MEL coordination or implementation, ideally within governance, social development, climate adaptation, or peacebuilding sectors in Nigeria.
  • Proven experience with adaptive programmes and promoting a reflective team culture.
  • Expertise in evidence-based monitoring and evaluation, including both accountability and learning outcomes.
  • In-depth knowledge of peace, security, and climate issues in North-West and North-Central Nigeria.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing Management Information Systems (MIS), data collection apps, and dashboards for real-time data visualization.

Skills

  • Strong analytical, research, and report writing skills, with the ability to analyze both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ability to develop experimental evaluation methods, such as Randomized Control Trials (RCTs).
  • Effective communicator with the ability to simplify complex data for a range of audiences.

Additional Attributes

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Track record of managing data quality and supporting teams on MEL methodologies.
  • Ability to solve complex issues through strategic analysis and consensus-building.
