The Mutual Union of the Tiv in America (MUTA) Education Committee is pleased to announce the opening of its 2025 Education Scholarship Program, which offers significant opportunities for students in the fields of STEM, medicine, and allied medical studies. Award Overview
The MUTA Education Scholarship Program will provide up to 16 scholarships for the academic year 2025/2026. The scholarship is designed to support undergraduate students from the Tiv-speaking regions of Nigeria. One recipient will be chosen from each of the 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Benue State, with two additional scholarships for applicants from Taraba and Nasarawa states.
The exact scholarship amount will be determined after the selection process. The funds can be used to cover tuition fees, research expenses, and other education-related costs.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the 2025 MUTA Education Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Full-time Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program within the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), medicine, or allied medical fields.
- Academic Excellence: A minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Applicants failing to meet this CGPA requirement will not be considered.
- Tiv Origin: Applicants must provide a valid Certificate of Origin confirming their state or local government origin within Tiv-speaking regions.
How to Apply
The application process is straightforward and requires the completion of an online application form. Applicants must submit the following supporting documents:
- Personal Statement: A two-page, double-spaced essay detailing your academic achievements, career aspirations, community involvement, and financial need.
- Certificate of Origin: A document verifying your Tiv origin, either from your state or local government.
- CGPA Certification: A letter from your institution’s Academic Officer or Head of Department confirming your CGPA. This letter should be printed on the institution’s official letterhead.

Evaluation Criteria
Each application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- CGPA (60%): Academic performance is weighted heavily, reflecting the applicant's commitment to excellence.
- Personal Statement (40%): The quality of the personal statement, including clarity of career goals, academic achievements, and the ability to articulate financial need and community contributions.
Please note that any falsified information will lead to immediate disqualification from the scholarship program.
Deadline and Submission
The application deadline is 5 PM (US Eastern Standard Time, GMT-5) on Tuesday, 15th April 2025. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by this time to be considered.
Notification and Award Presentation
Applicants will be notified of their selection via email, and the list of winners will also be posted on MUTA’s official website and social media platforms by June 2025. The awards will be formally presented at a ceremony scheduled for July or August 2025.
