Fellowship Overview: Each year, the National Humanities Center welcomes scholars from around the globe to its campus in North Carolina. As part of the fellowship cohort, scholars contribute to a rich intellectual environment while pursuing their research projects.
Benefits of the Fellowship: Fellows enjoy the freedom to work on their projects in a conducive environment. The Archie K. Davis building provides private studies, light-filled common areas, and beautiful grounds. Additionally, scholars receive exceptional library services, daily meals, and administrative support for seminars and study groups.
Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must hold a doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials. Mid-career and senior scholars are encouraged to apply, as well as emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work. Note that the Center does not support the revision of doctoral dissertations.
Stipend Details: Stipend amounts are determined individually based on scholars' needs and the Center's resources. The Center seeks to provide up to half salary, with a maximum of $65,000. Scholars are expected to seek additional funding from their home institutions to cover the remaining salary.
Available Subjects: The fellowship program welcomes scholars from all fields of the humanities, as well as the natural and social sciences, the arts, the professions, and public life. Explore opportunities to pursue humanistic projects across a wide range of disciplines.
Application Process: The Center will accept applications for the 2025-26 academic year starting July 1, 2024, with a deadline of October 3, 2024. Applicants are required to submit a project proposal, short bibliography, curriculum vitae, and project outline. Additionally, three references will be contacted to submit letters of recommendation.
