The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is thrilled to announce the 8th edition of its Undergraduate Essay Competition, providing an exciting platform for Nigerian students to showcase their ideas and contribute to the nation’s Oil and Gas industry. This annual event, sponsored by the NCDMB, encourages young intellectuals to actively engage in discussions around local content development, with a focus this year on the advancement of local content and academic excellence.

Overview of the Competition

The NCDMB Undergraduate Essay Competition is a prestigious contest that invites 100 and 200-level students from Nigerian universities and polytechnics to submit their thoughts on how local content can help unlock opportunities, not just in Nigeria, but across Africa. The competition challenges students to propose innovative ideas that could shape the future of local capacity building and skills development within the continent.

Essay Topic for 2024

The theme for the 2024 edition of the competition is “Nigerian Content and Opportunities in African Local Content Advancement.” Participants are expected to explore how strengthening local content can create opportunities and drive sustainable growth within African economies, with an emphasis on Nigeria's role as a leader in this field.

Rules and Eligibility

The competition is open to students enrolled in any public or private university or polytechnic in Nigeria, specifically those in their first or second year of study (100-200 level). The competition commenced on 16th September 2024, and entries will be accepted until 14th October 2024.

  • Submissions must not exceed 1,500 words.
  • Each entry must be accompanied by a valid admission letter or a letter of attestation from the Head of Department (HOD).
  • No personal information, such as the student’s name, should be included in the essay itself to ensure anonymity during the evaluation process.
  • Co-authored essays will not be accepted, and each participant is limited to one submission.
  • Late entries will not be considered.

To enter the competition, students should:

  1. Register on the official NCDMB registration page.

  3. Include necessary documentation, such as an admission letter or attestation from their HOD.
  4. Provide accurate contact information (phone number and email) during the submission process.
