The Chairman of the Governing Council at Osun State College of Technology in Esa-Oke, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, recently voiced strong criticism against the Nigerian government's apparent neglect of technology education. Joined by Rector Dr. Samson Adegoke, Odeyemi expressed his concerns during a press briefing held in Osogbo.
Highlighting the disparity in attention between universities and polytechnics, Odeyemi emphasized the crucial role of technical education in fostering the nation's technological advancement.
He lamented the prevailing trend of paying mere lip service to technology, warning that without genuine commitment, progress would remain elusive.
Odeyemi urged a shift in focus towards polytechnic education, citing its pivotal role in advancing technology. He emphasized the need for a strategic redirection in educational policies to align with the nation's aspirations for technological development.
Speaking specifically about the achievements of Osun State College of Technology, Odeyemi showcased several innovative projects, including Bluetooth-controlled fans, GSM-controlled generators, electric jacks, and smart home automation systems. Despite these remarkable endeavors, he expressed disappointment over the lack of patronage and support from relevant stakeholders.
In conclusion, Odeyemi called for a concerted effort from both the government and society to prioritize and invest in technical education.
He stressed that without adequate attention and resources, Nigeria's ambitions for technological advancement would remain unfulfilled, urging a collective commitment to steer the nation in the right direction.
