We are currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Partnerships Manager (NW) in Katsina, Nigeria. This is a full-time, in-person role, and is part of our ongoing efforts to foster impactful partnerships within the humanitarian sector. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to one of the IRC’s most crucial functions partnership management.

Position Overview

As the Partnerships Manager for Northwest Nigeria, you will report to the IRC Northwest Team Lead and Partnerships Coordinator. In this pivotal position, your main responsibility will be to oversee and execute partnership management across the region. This will involve working closely with local and international partners to ensure high-quality, compliant programming. You will play a key role in nurturing and managing partnerships, sharing expertise, and contributing to the development of sustainable collaborations that drive meaningful change for the communities we serve.

This role requires frequent interaction with partners, internal teams, and regional and headquarters staff to ensure that the IRC’s partnership efforts are aligned with its broader strategic goals. You will also travel occasionally to partner offices for mapping exercises, capacity assessments, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy Implementation:

  • Develop and promote a strong and transparent partnership management framework based on principles of equality, clarity, and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the IRC Nigeria team to implement a strategic approach to local partnerships, particularly in the Northwest region, ensuring alignment with IRC’s mission.
  • Lead and facilitate cross-departmental meetings to improve the coordination and effectiveness of IRC’s partnerships across all operational areas.

2. Partnership Management:

  • Work closely with senior leadership and the country team to build and sustain principled partnerships with local and national organizations.
  • Oversee the entire partnership lifecycle, from initial partner identification and due diligence, to project development, implementation, and close-out. Ensure that partnerships are managed in accordance with IRC’s standards and compliance requirements.
  • Support the program and grants teams in identifying new funding opportunities and securing partnerships with civil society organizations, government bodies, and the private sector.
  • Lead the due diligence process for new partnerships, ensuring risk assessments are thoroughly completed and appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.
  • Review sub-award agreements and ensure that all relevant conditions and performance metrics are incorporated into project documents.
  • Engage regularly with partners through scheduled meetings, offering support and guidance as necessary.

3. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the development of tailored capacity-building initiatives that strengthen partner organizations’ ability to implement projects successfully.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentoring, and coaching to local partners, enhancing their understanding of IRC’s partnership approach and operational requirements.
  • Facilitate feedback loops to gather insights from partners, ensuring continuous improvement in partnership management practices.

4. Team Collaboration and Management:

  • Collaborate with the Partnerships Capacity Sharing Manager and other departments to develop capacity-sharing plans that are contextually relevant.
  • Supervise and support junior team members, fostering a positive work environment and promoting their professional development.
  • Step into the responsibilities of colleagues as needed to ensure seamless team function and timely delivery of project goals.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Business Management, International Development, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in managing partnerships, grants, or operations within a development or humanitarian context.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with national and local civil society organizations is essential.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training programs is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software and tools for managing partnerships and grants.
  • A commitment to IRC’s core values of integrity, accountability, and respect.

Language Skills:

  • Professional fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
