Akawe Torkula Polytechnic Makurdi is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill the vital role of Registrar. The successful candidate will report directly to the Rector and will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Polytechnic.
This is a significant leadership position, as the Registrar serves as one of the principal officers of the institution, overseeing the Registry Department and ensuring the proper management of essential Polytechnic documents.
The Registrar will also act as the Secretary to the Governing Council, the Academic Board, and any standing committee of the Council, playing a critical role in the governance and academic integrity of the Polytechnic.
Key Responsibilities
- Administration: Manage the daily administrative operations of the Polytechnic, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
- Leadership: Provide effective leadership within the Registry Department, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Documentation: Safeguard and manage all official documents and records of the Polytechnic.
- Meeting Coordination: Organize and document meetings of the Governing Council and Academic Board, ensuring accurate record-keeping and dissemination of information.
- Policy Development: Contribute to policy formulation and implementation that aligns with the Polytechnic’s mission and objectives.
- Liaison Role: Serve as a key liaison between the Polytechnic, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A First Degree with a minimum of second-class lower division or a Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a lower credit in Social Sciences, Education, Arts, Humanities, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- A minimum of 18 years of post-qualification cognate experience for first-degree and HND holders; or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline with at least 15 years cognate experience; or a Doctorate degree (PhD) with a minimum of 12 years cognate experience, of which at least 10 years must have been acquired in a Polytechnic or a similar Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution.
- Proven ability in administrative leadership, initiative, creativity in policy formulation, and positive managerial attributes.
- Familiarity with the Public Service Rules and Regulations governing the Polytechnic system.
- Evidence of membership in professional body/bodies recognized by the government.
- Commitment to equity and inclusion with no inclination towards pursuing racial, gender, political, religious, or other sectional interests.
- High moral integrity, sound character, and a reputation free from financial embarrassment.
- Must be a registered member of relevant professional bodies recognized by the government.
- Currently hold the rank of Deputy Registrar for no less than five (5) years in a Polytechnic or similar TVET institution.
- Proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills and tools.
- Must not exceed 59 years of age at the time of application.
- Must provide evidence of being physically and mentally fit from a government hospital.
Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service
The appointment will be for a single term of five (5) years, in accordance with extant provisions. The salary for this position is consolidated, and the appointee will enjoy additional benefits as prescribed for the Principal Officer roles at the Polytechnic, as approved by the government.
