Job Title: Research Associate I or Research Associate II
Location: Nigeria
Reporting To: Country Director, Nigeria
Assignment Duration: Two years, renewable based on mutual consent and funding availability
About the Position
As part of our global team, the Research Associate will play a pivotal role in driving forward innovative research initiatives that address the most pressing issues facing vulnerable populations, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Key Responsibilities
- Research Implementation: Design, manage, and implement research projects at the national and regional levels. This includes conducting secondary analyses and systematic reviews on key topics.
- Capacity Building: Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Knowledge Translation: Collaborate with partners to ensure research findings are adapted and scaled for real-world impact.
- Resource Mobilization: Identify and pursue funding opportunities, maintain relationships with donors, and develop proposals for new research activities.
- Partnership Development: Build and sustain strategic partnerships with government bodies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Project Management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure the successful delivery of outputs.
- Dissemination: Share research findings through high-impact peer-reviewed publications, reports, and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Thought Leadership: For Associate II candidates, lead the identification of emerging research trends, develop strategic visions, and contribute to global health discourse.
Qualifications and Skills
For Both Roles:
- A doctoral degree in Social Science, Medicine, Public Health, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in sexual and reproductive health, gender equity, youth empowerment, and climate change impacts.
- Minimum of 2 years (Associate I) or 6 years (Associate II) post-doctoral experience.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex research into accessible insights for diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work effectively within bureaucratic systems and complex research organizations.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with a commitment to social justice and equity.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Additional Requirements for Associate II Candidates:
- A demonstrated history of leading research projects and publishing in high-impact journals.
- Experience securing research funding and managing budgets.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor teams on intervention and research activities.
