Job Summary
The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is looking for a qualified Safety, Environment and Sustainability Assistant to join its Facilities Maintenance section. This role is integral in supporting the safety, environmental, and sustainability goals of the Mission. The successful candidate will report to the Facility Manager and will be responsible for performing safety inspections across all U.S. Consulate-owned and leased properties.
In addition to assisting the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO) and Assistant POSHO in their duties, the incumbent will also serve as the liaison for all Green Team projects. This includes coordinating with the Political/Economic Section’s Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) representatives to ensure the success of sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Safety Inspections: Conduct safety inspections across all government-owned and leased properties of the U.S. Consulate, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Sustainability Initiatives: Assist in implementing and supporting the Mission’s sustainability goals, working closely with the Green Team and other relevant stakeholders.

Collaboration with ESTH Team: Coordinate with the Political/Economic Section’s ESTH representatives to promote and implement sustainable practices within the Consulate’s operations.

Reporting and Documentation: Provide regular updates and reports on safety, environmental, and sustainability activities to the Facility Manager and other relevant personnel.

Training and Support: Provide safety training to staff as needed, ensuring all personnel are aware of safety protocols and practices.

Other Tasks as Assigned: Support other tasks and initiatives related to facilities management and sustainability as directed by the Facility Manager.
Required Qualifications and Skills

Education: Completion of High School (Secondary School) is required.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an office or management-related position is required.

Job Knowledge:
- General knowledge of office work environments.
- Understanding of host nation government entities that may interact with the role’s duties is beneficial.

Skills and Abilities:
- Basic keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to make presentations and communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
- Must be observant, flexible, service-oriented, and able to work well within a team.
- Ability to obtain a valid secret clearance.
