Summary
Join our team at the U.S. Mission to Nigeria, comprising the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos serves as the Mission’s representative in the southern region of Nigeria. We're currently seeking eligible candidates for the position of Safety Program Coordinator in our Facility Management office.
Duties
The Safety Program Coordinator, serving as the Senior Level Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO) Assistant, plays a vital role in executing the day-to-day functions of the Office of Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Office of Fire Protection (FIRE) programs. Responsibilities include:
- Inspecting and evaluating government-owned, newly leased, and existing properties to ensure compliance with SHEM and FIRE requirements.
- Conducting safety surveys, preparing reports, and performing follow-up inspections to maintain compliance, while also managing statistical databases and hazardous materials inventories.
- Serving as the post fire warden, organizing fire drills, and assisting in fire-related investigations and reporting to Washington.
- Addressing infractions identified by OBO/SHEM, OBO/FIRE, Annual Inspection Summary (15 FAM), and other investigations, and acting as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for safety-related contracts.
Education Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in Safety and Health, Engineering, Architecture, or Facilities Management is required.
Experience
Candidates should have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in maintenance or construction, performing repair work, or in the field of occupational safety, such as construction supervision, quality control assurance inspection, or as a POSHO assistant.
