Saudi Arabia to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup: Official Confirmation by FIFA President
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host of the 2034 World Cup. The announcement was made via his Instagram account.
Saudi Arabia's bid for the prestigious football tournament emerged only recently, with Australia withdrawing from the bidding process on October 31, 2023.
Australia's Football Association decided to focus on hosting the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2026 and the Club World Cup in 2029, leaving Saudi Arabia as the sole contender to host the world's most significant football event.
This marks the third time the World Cup will be held in the Asian continent, following South Korea and Japan in 2002 and Qatar in 2022.
climatic conditions in Saudi Arabia
Due to the climatic conditions in Saudi Arabia, the tournament will be held in the winter, similar to the World Cup hosted by Qatar in 2022.
Saudi Arabia As Host For 2034 FIFA World Cup
It's important to note that Saudi Arabia had previously applied to host the 2030 World Cup but will now wait an additional four years to organize the event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the global reach of football, with the upcoming World Cups spanning multiple continents and countries.
He mentioned that these moments of unity are crucial in today's world, and FIFA World Cups play a unique role in promoting inclusivity and harmony.
Infantino acknowledged the consensus achieved through FIFA Council and the representation of all six confederations in the bidding processes.
Football, he believes, has the unmatched power to bring people together and foster a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.
