Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing serious allegations in separate lawsuits claiming sexual assault against two boys, one of whom was just 10 years old at the time. The plaintiffs allege that the abuse occurred in 2005 and 2008, respectively. These civil lawsuits, filed in New York state’s Supreme Court, are part of over two dozen accusations against the renowned music mogul concerning sexual misconduct.
Legal Representation and Continuing Claims
The lawsuits were filed anonymously by both plaintiffs, who are represented by attorneys Tony Buzbee and Andrew Van Arsdale. Buzbee has previously filed more than a dozen lawsuits against Combs and has stated that he represents over 100 individuals with similar claims. “We will continue to file cases weekly naming Mr. Combs and others as defendants as we continue to gather evidence and prepare the filings,” he remarked following the latest lawsuits.
Combs' Response to Allegations
Both plaintiffs reside in California and are seeking a jury trial. In response, Combs' attorneys have accused Buzbee of seeking media attention rather than focusing on the truth. They pointed out a recent press conference where Buzbee solicited new clients, stating, “The lawyer behind this lawsuit is interested in media attention rather than the truth… Mr. Combs cannot respond to every new publicity stunt.”
Criminal Charges and Legal Situation
Currently, Combs is detained in a New York City jail after pleading not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Federal prosecutors allege that he coerced individuals into sexual acts and used blackmail and violence to silence victims. One victim is mentioned in the indictment, although prosecutors have indicated there are multiple victims.
Details of the 2005 Allegation
In one of the lawsuits, a plaintiff recounts how, in 2005, he was introduced to Combs under the pretense of auditioning for a music career. The lawsuit alleges that after being given a spiked soda, the child was sexually assaulted by Combs, who threatened the boy with harm if he reported the incident. This trauma has left the plaintiff with severe depression, anxiety, and feelings of hopelessness.
The 2008 Incident During "Making the Band"
Another plaintiff, who was 17 at the time of the alleged abuse in 2008, participated in auditions for the MTV reality show “Making the Band.” The lawsuit claims that during a private meeting, Combs groped the teen and coerced him into sexual acts, leveraging his influence over the contestant's potential career in the music industry. After expressing discomfort, the teen was eliminated from the competition, which caused him to stay away from the music scene for seven years.
Broader Implications and Previous Settlements
In previous interviews, attorney Andrew Van Arsdale mentioned that many of the individuals alleging abuse as minors met Combs under the guise of auditions or career advancement. So far, Combs has settled only one lawsuit, filed by his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, for an undisclosed eight-figure amount, without admitting any wrongdoing. His legal team continues to challenge the remaining lawsuits against him.
