Job Description
The Senior Polio Programme Manager will lead national-level polio program activities, offering guidance and support to teams at both federal and state levels. This critical role involves collaborating with government counterparts, engaging with the national Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and leading UNICEF Nigeria’s efforts to stop cVPV2 transmission by 2025.
Reporting to the Chief of Health, the Senior Polio Programme Manager will hold accountability for the overall leadership and management of the national polio program, including setting policy direction, advocating with local authorities, and ensuring program integration. The position also involves close collaboration with senior WHO officials and other key stakeholders.
Key Functions
- Managerial guidance, policy advice, and coordination
- Knowledge management and data analysis
- National and local capacity building and sustainability
- Advocacy at national, community, and family levels
- Advocacy, communication, and networking through partnerships
- Country program development and management
- Rights-based and results-based program management
- Optimal use of program funds
- Program monitoring and evaluations
Requirements
- Education: Advanced university degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Development, or other relevant fields.
- Work Experience: At least 10 years of relevant professional experience at the national and international levels in program development, polio programming, public health emergencies, and more.
- Desirables: Experience in developing countries or emergency coordination, especially in polio eradication and complex humanitarian environments. Fieldwork and international experience are assets. Familiarity with public health emergency response, technical support in health-related emergencies, and UN policies and strategies is also beneficial.
