Job Title: Senior Reservoir Geophysicist
Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full Time
Job Purpose
The Senior Reservoir Geophysicist will:
- Follow up on all operators' geophysical interpretation to defend the company's position on all work program activities at the best cost.
- Perform in-house studies to challenge, evaluate, and validate operators' results and work programs.
- Prepare validation dossiers under the supervision of the General Manager for internal approvals and RevGis.
- Report on departmental assets’ key activities in seismic and other exploration activities (weekly, monthly, etc.).
- Conduct geophysics studies independently, interfacing with operators and HQ to uphold the company's technical standards and business interests.
Activities
Follow-up of Operators’ Geophysics Activities
- Participate in technical meetings with operators and partners.
- Challenge operators’ interpretations to ensure well placement optimization through independent in-house studies.
- Evaluate and communicate geophysical/geological risks associated with projects to influence investment decisions.
- Represent the 2G in technical meetings and workshops with partners/operators.
- Review operators' presentations to validate geophysical information and project details.
- Develop communication channels with counterpart geophysicists in other IOCs.
Seismic Interpretation and 2G Studies
- Independently interpret seismic data in support of key departmental projects.
- Provide reliable interpretation of 3D data to enhance field understanding and optimize production.
- Study available 4D data to evaluate infill opportunities.
- Communicate validated interpretations to partners and operators.
- Maintain an organized data filing system.
- Assist the 2G Manager in data collection and maintain an up-to-date 2G database.
- Validate and interpret geophysical and geological data.
- Participate in project sanction processes.
- Communicate with in-house specialists to ensure adequate inputs to 2G models.
Others
- Present results to L+1 & L+2, COMPANY Geoscience Métiers, and HQ for validation.
- Develop petrel skills with team geologists.
- Stand in for the departmental 2G Manager when required.
- Promote HSE in line with COMPANY policies and ensure adherence to all HSE rules.
Context and Environment
- Position based in Lagos.
- Work with complex Shell and ExxonMobil assets, ensuring persistent data requests.
- Manage numerous workshops and documentation challenges with operators.
- Interact internally and externally with technical entities.
- Gather data and participate in meetings, which may take up to 30% of the time.
- Maintain the company’s technical reputation and innovation through evolving ideas and exploration projects.
- Respect and effectively interact with team members and partners.
Accountabilities
- Adhere to COMPANY’s Policies and Code of Conduct.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of technical data.
- Establish positive relationships with HQ, operators, partners, and NAPIMS.
- Maintain a proactive attitude in meetings with operators.
- Demonstrate high autonomy and initiative.
- Report timely and present data and analysis effectively.
- Uphold COMPANY’s reputation through technical proficiency and professional behavior.
HSE Objectives
- Familiarize with COMPANY emergency procedures and report any incidents or unsafe operations.
- Ensure personnel under supervision are trained and aware of HSE responsibilities.
Qualifications / Experience Required
- Degree in Geosciences (M.Sc. or equivalent)
- Experience in geophysics operations
- Strong supervisory, presentation, communication, and team leadership skills
- Minimum of 12 years of experience with a strong 2G background
