Key Responsibilities
Gather and Analyze Patient Information:
- Review, verify, and meticulously document patient history, physical condition, and study protocols.
Testing Preparation Procedures:
- Calibrate equipment to precise standards.
- Apply electrodes and sensors following established protocols.
- Conduct necessary physiologic calibrations.
Polysomnographic Procedures:
- Adhere to procedural protocols for various studies like Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT), parasomnia studies, and PAP/oxygen titration.
- Implement "lights out" procedures to establish baseline values.
- Acquire polysomnographic data, ensuring artifact-free signals and making adjustments as needed.
- Document observations including sleep stages and clinical events to aid in result interpretation.
- Implement interventions for patient safety and therapeutic purposes, such as administering positive airway pressure and oxygen.
Polysomnographic Record Scoring:
- Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to professional guidelines.
- Generate accurate reports summarizing sleep/wake patterns and clinical data.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Instruct patients on completing questionnaires and provide age-specific care across pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Oversee and perform complex procedures and therapeutic interventions as required.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Experience in evaluating and treating sleep disorders.
- Completion of an accredited program leading to an associate degree in Polysomnography or equivalent.
- Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- Current CPR or BCLS certification.
