Job Description
Projects & Engineering (P&E) is Shell’s project execution engine, responsible for safely and efficiently executing new projects for our business partners in Upstream, Downstream, Integrated Gas, and New Energies. P&E also provides exceptional engineering support to existing assets, both within Shell and in non-operated ventures. This position reports directly to the Project Services Manager for Deepwater Projects (DWP) and is accountable for:
- Delivering and maintaining standard, consistent, and realistic project plans reflecting assessed risk parameters for Nigeria Deepwater projects.
- Leading the Planning Team, accountable for delivering Planning & Scheduling activities and deliverables.
- Setting focused goals to deliver "Best in Class" competitive projects.
Responsibilities
As a Team Lead in Planning, your role includes:

Project Planning and Control:
- Develop and maintain consistent, integrated, and realistic plans for flagship, material, brownfield, and decommissioning projects.
- Create a hierarchy of plans required to execute projects, incorporating local requirements into project schedules.
- Implement and ensure compliance with Shell's standard tools and processes.

Project Complexity and Risk Management:
- Incorporate complexity factors and local requirements into project planning.
- Develop Schedule Basis documents and manage planning data.
- Establish processes to collect and normalize actual planning performance data for future use.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise with and challenge Business Opportunity Managers/Project Managers to ensure proper understanding of key schedule sensitivities and drivers.
- Present credible and competitive outcomes to senior leadership.

Change and Risk Management:
- Review scope change requests and prepare reconciliations between earlier and current schedules.
- Perform scenario comparisons and sensitivities on planning estimates, reflecting project risks.
- Track schedule risk mitigation efforts and float consumption.

Commercial and Contract Strategies:

Contribute to the development of commercial/contract strategy documents.
- Ensure all key dates and milestones align with the overall integrated plan.

Team Leadership and Development:
- Motivate, coach, and develop Planning Engineers.
- Manage continuous improvement efforts within the Planning & Scheduling functions.

Collaboration and Benchmarking:
- Collaborate with Shell Global Project Services and other regions for standardization and continuous improvement.
- Benchmark project duration results against internal and external data.

- Project Team, Discipline Engineering, Portfolio Managers, Operations Readiness & Commissioning, Wells, Development, Contracts & Procurement, Finance, HR, Commercial, Legal, HSSE, Assets, Decommissioning, Technical Planning, Group Project Services, Vendors, Contractors, NUIMS, NUPRC, and Co-Venturers.
Key Challenges
- Managing short turnaround planning and assurance due to project and contract timelines.
- Ensuring continuous planning support for all project phases.
- Expediting the development of Planning Engineers to perform independently.
- Responding quickly to improve execution efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Engineering Degree or Certified Planning & Scheduling Professional (e.g., AACEI-PSP) is an added advantage.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience in the oil & gas industry is essential, with at least 12 years of working experience and 8 years in Upstream Projects.
- Skills: Proficiency in Shell Project Planning principles and tools such as Primavera P6, Acumen Fuse, and Primavera Risk Analysis.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities, excellent collaboration, analytical, and communication skills.
