Job Overview
The Treasury and Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing crucial processes within the treasury and reporting functions. These include cash management, online payments, cash flow forecasts, and maintaining strong controls over bank accounts. The successful candidate will also support monthly business performance reporting and work towards continuous improvement in treasury and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Treasury Management
- Oversee the bank reconciliation process, ensuring that reconciliations for all bank accounts are completed on time and accurately.
- Manage daily treasury functions, including transaction reviews, data entry, reporting, and reconciliation of digital payment platforms.
- Prepare the Daily Treasury Statement (DTS), reviewing bank fees, interest rates, and charges to ensure compliance with agreed-upon terms.
- Develop and maintain weekly cash flow projections.
- Maintain and update loan schedules, ensuring the accuracy of monthly loan interest expenses and accruals.
- Ensure that all reconciling cash and bank items are cleared by month-end, maintaining up-to-date and accurate cashbook balances.
- Proactively address unresolved issues by escalating them to the Head of Finance and other relevant parties for resolution.
- Lead the creation and management of strategies, processes, and policies related to treasury activities.
Payroll and Statutory Management
- Oversee monthly payroll preparation and ensure its accuracy.
- Reconcile statutory deductions (PFA) schedules against the respective remittances each month.
- Prepare payment schedules for terminal benefits, probationary pay, and off-payroll payments.
- Reconcile bank transactions to payroll monthly.
- Issue and distribute pay slips to employees on time.
- Interpret and implement payroll internal control procedures.
- Develop the daily call-over schedule for payroll verification.
Cash Flow and Financial Reporting
- Accurately prepare short-term and medium-term cash flow forecasts.
- Prepare the monthly Revenue Assurance Report and ensure it aligns with business projections.
- Conduct monthly analysis of cash and cash equivalents, ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
- Provide insightful commentary on the management of cash and cash equivalents in monthly and quarterly reports, advising the Head of Finance on business performance.
- Assist in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Review and resolve errors or discrepancies in financial transactions, reports, and documents.
- File annual PAYE tax returns and process PENCOM and NSITF compliance certificate renewals.
Requirements
- Experience: 3-5 years in a treasury function or a relevant financial management position.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial legislation, monetary and fiscal policies, financial processes, and treasury management.
- Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Strong judgment and ability to manage time efficiently.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, ERP systems, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Other Skills: Expertise in financial analysis, business investment management, liquidity planning, and financial modelling.
