UAE Grants Air Peace Approval for Direct Dubai Flights; Emirates Set to Resume Operations
The UAE government has granted approval to Nigeria’s Air Peace for direct flights to and from Dubai, as revealed by Minister Festus Keyamo during the 2023 Dubai Airshow. Keyamo also announced Emirates Airlines' intention to resume operations in Nigeria after discussions at the Airshow.
In a statement from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Keyamo expressed positive results from his meeting with Emirates officials. The airline confirmed its readiness to commence direct flights to Nigeria, addressing previous challenges related to repatriation of earnings.
During the Dubai Airshow, Minister Keyamo explored opportunities for Nigeria's aviation industry, discussing the possibility of establishing an MRO facility with the CEO of Airline Executive, Dana Hatcic. He also hinted at organizing the inaugural Nigeria Air Show in November 2024, positioning Nigeria as the first African country to host such an event.
The Dubai Airshow, held from November 13 to 17, attracted global participants, including leading aviation specialists. Keyamo utilized the event to inspect modern technologies for advancing his 5-Point agenda, emphasizing infrastructure improvement and innovation in civil aviation.
Recall that in November 2022, Emirates suspended flights to Nigeria due to challenges in repatriating revenue. The airline cited the inability to access blocked funds and emphasized the need for a mechanism to ensure future repatriation. These recent developments signal positive strides in resolving these issues and fostering collaboration between the UAE and Nigerian aviation sectors.
