Established through Edict no. 12 of 1971 under the visionary leadership of Col. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, the then Military Governor of the Midwestern state, UBTH was conceived as a vital counterpart to the University of Benin. This institution, envisioned to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community, was founded with a clear mandate: Healing, Teaching, and Research. Initially inaugurated on 12th May 1973 with a modest bed capacity of 360, UBTH has since undergone significant expansion. As of August 2017, the hospital boasts a bed capacity of 860, a testament to its continuous growth and development. With numerous departments offering a diverse array of services, UBTH has evolved into a true Center of Excellence, serving as a lifeline for countless individuals in need of medical care.

In line with its commitment to education and professional development, UBTH announces the commencement of admissions for the 2024/2025 academic session at its School of Post Basic Nursing Studies. This esteemed institution offers several diploma courses tailored to equip nurses with specialized skills and knowledge in various areas of healthcare. The courses available for the upcoming academic session include:

Entry Requirements
Prospective candidates seeking admission into UBTH's School of Post Basic Nursing Studies must meet the following entry requirements:
- Possess a minimum of five (5) credits in not more than two sittings in WAEC/GCE O'Levels, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Be a qualified nurse duly registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Have at least one year of post-registration clinical experience in the relevant area.
How to Apply UBTH Post-Basic Nursing Admission
To apply for admission, interested individuals can obtain admission forms from the office of the Principal/Head, School of Post Basic Nursing Studies, UBTH, upon payment of an application fee of Ten thousand Naira (N10,000). It's important to note that all payments for application forms should be made directly into UBTH's account using the Remita platform in any bank in Nigeria, under the service type: "Training School of Post Basic Nursing Studies."
The application process is entirely online, and forms can be accessed via the college of nursing portal. The deadline for obtaining and submitting forms is the 16th of August, 2024. Candidates are responsible for their accommodation and feeding during the examination period.
