The U.S. Mission to Nigeria, consisting of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos, serves as a vital link between the United States and Nigeria. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos plays a crucial role as the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.
Duties:
As a Visa Assistant (NIV/IV) at the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, you will undertake a diverse range of consular duties associated with delivering nonimmigrant visa (NIV) and immigrant visa (IV) services. Your responsibilities will include data-entry, document review, correspondence, passport manifesting, visa printing, and general office tasks. With a strong focus on customer service, you will interact daily with a diverse range of applicants in person and via correspondence. Attention to detail is paramount to ensure all cases meet documentary requirements, and you will be expected to identify trends or potential issues and escalate them as necessary. Flexibility is key, as you will be fully cross-trained to function in any role required by visa demand and scheduling.
Education Requirements:
Candidates must have completed two (2) years of college or university studies.
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact, customer service, or problem-solving is required.
Requirements:
- All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a public trust security clearance.
- Candidates will undergo a background investigation and may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical exam.
- Selected candidates must be able to commence work within six weeks of agency authorization or their candidacy may end.
Skills and Abilities:
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Outlook, with basic knowledge of MS Excel and Power Point.
- Ability to work accurately and rapidly.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to deal tactfully with the public under pressure.
- Proficiency in drafting written correspondence in English and the local language.
- Strong judgment in evaluating evidence, protecting sensitive information, and applying regulations.
- Attention to detail, ability to work independently or as part of a team, and strong interpersonal skills.
